Chocolate & Peanut Butter Cake with Reese’s 

Hey everyone!

Let me start by saying, chocolate + peanut butter = match made in heaven!

It was one of my close friends birthday and since I haven’t baked in a while (Exams and work kept me busy) I decided to do a bit of a fancy cake but in a rustic home made sort of way. I searched and went through a lot of recipes and decided to try one out. I made a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. It has two layers and some frosting in the middle. I decorated with some melted dark chocolate and Reese’s. As you can see I did it freestyle. The chocolate cake has buttermilk and coffee so it is moist, rich and well balanced. This cake is not overly sweet and I love that! The frosting is amazing and you can lather however much you like on your cake. I personally dont like a very thick layer so I was left with a bit of extra icing. I was so happy with it when it was done and was excited to present it to my friend who loved it!

Chocolate cake

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (or canola oil, or melted coconut oil)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup freshly brewed strong hot coffee

Peanut butter frosting & decoration

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups creamy peanut butter
  • 6-8 tbsp heavy cream
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Lindt 70% dark chocolate
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 4 Reese’s peanut butter cups chopped



  • Pre heat the oven to 180 Celsius and grease two 9 inch round bottomless cake tins
  • Mix the flour, chocolate powder, baking soda, baking powder together in a bowl
  • In another bowl mix the buttermilk, oil, eggs and vanilla together and beat it using a hand mixer until combined
  • Add the dry ingredients a scoop at a time and mix well
  • Add the strong coffee and beat on a slow speed. It would be a thin mix.
  • Pour half to each tin and bake for 25 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean
  • Once its baked cool them completely on a wire rack and while it does make the frosting

Peanut butter frosting

  • Add the peanut butter and butter in to a bowl and beat until creamy
  • Add the icing sugar in batches and beat till well combined
  • If the icing is too thick, add a tablespoon of thickened cream at a time until you reach the consistency you like

Assembly & decoration

  • Lay one layer on a plate and add a cup of the frosting on it and spread
  • Lay the next layer on top and lather the icing to cover the cake. How much you add is up to you
  • Melt the chocolate and butter together in the microwave in 15 second bursts and stir between rounds
  • Now this is the fun part. Drizzle to your hearts content. Totally up to you! I added some in the middle to place the Reese’s on top.
